Type Studies

My three type study projects explore the use of letterforms through different design strategies. The figure and ground project is quite impactful, especially with the color concept I used. I  explored type faces and arrangement through these three projects, as I built and overlayed type faces
and fonts.

Free Earth Festival Poster & Brochure

Free Earth Festival is an annual psytrance musical festival in Asprovalta, Greece. It is a 7-day musical festival right on the beach.  I used inspiration from the psytrance music culture and the Greek beaches. Every year at the festival, they have the main stage covered with a unique geometric canopy, which inspired the design at the top of the cover. This design pushed me to abstract letter forms and typefaces to create unique forms for the background and design.

HOW POTTERING IN THE GARDEN CREATES A TIME WARPCARL-DESIGN.COMMarch 26th 2026

Magazine Spread

Magazine Spread by Harriet Gross featuring How Pottering in a Garden Creates a Time Warp.  The spread design is geared towards all gardeners, but specifically indoor gardeners. I incorporated a 3-column layout and hand-drew all sketched elements. I have always enjoyed plant outlines and their organic nature, so I decided to incorporate them to complement the typeface. I learned a lot about long type layouts.

Little Leaf Lab CARL-DESIGN.COMMarch 26th, 2026

Little Leaf Lab
Packing & Logo

Little Leaf Lab is a concept seed starting kit. It is meant to inspire all age groups of consumers to start their own herb growing.  The packaging features a unique, user-oriented, scientific-themed design. I learned a lot about the layout of packaging and had a good revision process. My thoughts while designing this were practicality and uniqueness, along with wanting the product to be intriguing to all age groups.

Nauti Lite Light Lager Canned Beer  - Momac Brewing Company

One of my first commissions was for a beer can label for a company out of Virginia. The request was for a label that matched their Viking branding, along with a nautical look. After many iterations, including the blue with white outlines, I created the top label, which went on to production. I learned how to take critique from businesses and why locking down a file is important.

Carls Sparkles Lighters

A passion of mine is bedazzling, specifically bedazzling lighters, along with numerous other commissions not pictured out of privacy. I bedazzle with a unique technique (s).  Unlike most bedazzling, I do not use the honeycomb method, and instead use rhinestones with sizes from 2mm to 15mm to fill an area. This also allows me to create fine, intricate details and designs.
